Our History

The Mt. Baker Singles became a club in 1984. The first dance was on January 6th, 1984 at Hillcrest Lodge, with Jerry Johnson calling and Linda Johnson cueing. The second dance was on January 20th, in Barr's Barn, north of Bellingham. At this dance there was a contest to see if anyone could create a name for this club. Ron Ploeg submitted the winning name that is still in use today. The Mt. Baker Singles became a member of the Mt. Baker Council in September of 1984 as the only singles club at that time. In the spring of 1987 the Johnsons moved out of the area leaving the Club with no caller and cuer. We were very fortunate to get Dave Harry as both our caller and cuer in the fall of 1987.

Many things have changed since the beginning of this club but some things are still the same. Dave Harry is still our caller and cuer. He has become amazingly popular among the locals.  Those fortunate enough to hear him and his wife, Bonnie, doing their "A-live Sound" are blown away.  Although not many of the original members are still in the Club; the members that we have are wonderful, and truly have a passion for dancing.

With about 50 members the Mt. Baker Singles continues to be a fun club and will be a major part of the square dance scene for many years to come.
